“Bitcoin price” is drawing 100K+ U.S. searches this week on Google Trends, with “btc price” and “bitcoin price today” close behind. That’s because bitcoin just slipped below $77,000, reaching its lowest level since Aug. 21 according to Coindaro (citing Bitcoin.com News), ended a losing October, and heads into a November packed with market-moving events. Here’s what pushed the price down, what the ETF data shows, and the dates to watch.
At a glance
- Where it is: about $77,559 at 4:48 PM ET on Saturday, Oct 31, up 0.87% on the day, after dipping below $77,000 on Friday (Investing.com).
- Friday’s low: about $76,141 on Coinbase, according to Coindaro.
- ETF money left: U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs saw $643.33 million in net outflows on Oct 30, per SoSoValue data (Investing.com).
- From the top: bitcoin is far below its all-time high of $126,080 (Decrypt).
- Next big dates: midterm elections Nov 3, the jobs report Nov 6, inflation data Nov 10, and the Fed’s next decision Dec 9 (Coinspeaker).
Why bitcoin fell this week
Three things hit at once:
- A tech sell-off. AI and chip stocks slid after earnings. Coindaro, citing AP figures, reports the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.9% on Friday, Oct 30. Intel shares fell nearly 30%, the stock’s worst day in more than 50 years, according to Decrypt. HashKey researcher Tim Sun told Decrypt that bitcoin’s slide was “primarily driven by a broader correction in global risk assets,” with doubts about AI stock valuations a major factor.
- The Binance hack. The record $6.3 billion theft from Binance rattled crypto markets on Thursday and Friday (Investing.com). We covered the details in our Binance hack update.
- A hawkish-leaning Fed. The Federal Reserve held rates at 3.75% to 4% on Oct 28, but two officials voted for a hike. Polymarket was pricing a December quarter-point hike at 77% after the meeting (Coinspeaker). Higher rates tend to weigh on speculative assets.
What the ETF flows say
Spot bitcoin ETFs are funds that hold bitcoin and trade like stocks. Their daily flows are one of the clearest signs of what big investors are doing. Friday’s $643.33 million outflow snapped four straight days of inflows that had brought in about $440 million from Oct 26 to Oct 29 (Investing.com). According to Coindaro, the money left through five funds, with BlackRock’s IBIT the largest at $233.70 million.
For scale, Coindaro puts the ETFs’ total net assets at about $98 billion, so Friday’s outflow was well under 1% of the total. One bad day doesn’t make a trend; the next few sessions will show whether it was a one-off reaction to the headlines.

Update on Binance withdrawals
One fresh development since Friday: Binance said Sunday it has started phase one of restoring withdrawals. As of 5 AM ET on Nov 1, it said withdrawals were back for networks including Bitcoin, BNB, XRP, Base, Dogecoin and Optimism, and that it will restore more “in phases as security checks are completed” (CBS News/AFP). Binance had said Saturday it had covered about 90% of the stolen crypto with its own funds (Investing.com). Proof-of-reserves results are targeted for Monday, Nov 2 (Coindaro).
The November calendar
- Mon, Nov 2: Binance proof-of-reserves results (target) and the first ETF flow data of the week.
- Tue, Nov 3: U.S. midterm elections.
- Fri, Nov 6: October jobs report, 8:30 AM ET.
- Tue, Nov 10: October consumer price index (inflation), 8:30 AM ET.
- Wed, Dec 9: the Fed’s next rate decision.
History is a weak guide here. Coinspeaker notes bitcoin rose in only three of the last eight Novembers, and fell in both recent midterm years (2018 and 2022), though both of those came during bear markets and eight years is a small sample.
Price levels analysts are watching
Analysts quoted by Decrypt in late October flagged $75,000 as the next key support level if the slide continued (Tim Sun, HashKey) and said bitcoin would need to get back above about $82,000 to support the bull case (Stephen Wundke, Algoz). These are opinions, not predictions, and price levels like these are often broken.
What this means for regular holders
- Volatility cuts both ways. Daily swings of several percent are normal for bitcoin. Only invest money you can afford to lose.
- Be careful with leverage. Borrowed money magnifies losses, and leveraged positions were liquidated heavily during this week’s drop: about $1.5 billion to $1.7 billion in forced closures on Friday, according to Coindaro, citing CoinGlass and Bitcoin.com News figures.
- Watch for scams. Big headlines bring fake “recovery” and “refund” offers. Never share your seed phrase or 2FA codes.
- Check the source. Use official exchange channels for updates on withdrawals or balances.
Our take
Bitcoin’s drop below $77,000 looks like a pile-up of bad news (an AI-stock sell-off, the Binance hack and a Fed leaning toward higher rates) rather than one single cause. The Binance withdrawal restart is a small positive, but the next big signals are the ETF flows on Monday and the jobs and inflation data later this month. Nobody knows where the price goes next, so be wary of anyone who says they do.
