How to Get Started With Grok Bot for Free (2026)

Disclosure: If you sign up through our referral link, we may receive a free usage reset. This doesn’t cost you anything. (How referral rewards work)

Facts in this article come from the official Grok Bot help and docs pages (cursor.com/help/grok-bot and docs.x.ai), checked on October 30, 2026. Plans and offers can change, so confirm the current terms when you sign up. Images are AI-generated illustrations, not screenshots.

Grok Bot lets you create AI teammates (“Bots”) that take on multi-step work across apps and websites on their own cloud computer. Here’s what the free option really is, and how to get going.

Is there a free tier?

Not a permanent one for Grok Bot. Here’s what the official pages say:

  • Free trial through a referral link: friends invited with a referral link get a 2-week (14-day) free trial of X Premium, which includes Grok Bot. A credit card is required, nothing is charged at checkout, and you get a reminder before the first charge. Cancel before the 14-day trial ends to avoid a charge (referral terms).
  • Free and Plus plans don’t include Grok Bot. On The X Subscription, Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super and Ultra (source).
  • Separately, Grok Bot’s own in-app trial is a usage credit (with a 7-day window). That one never turns into a paid plan. The 2-week referral trial does renew automatically unless you cancel (source, referral terms).

How to start free, step by step

  1. Open a Grok Bot referral link (ours is fine).
  2. Sign up. You need to be new to Grok and use an eligible email. Trials started through the App Store or Google Play don’t count (referral terms).
  3. Enter a credit card to start the 2-week free trial of Premium.
  4. Download the Grok Bot app when prompted. It’s on desktop, iPhone and Android.
  5. Create your first Bot and tell it its job in plain language.
  6. Connect the apps it needs (like Gmail, Slack or Notion) when it asks.
  7. If you don’t want to continue, cancel before the trial ends. You’ll get a reminder 7 days before the first charge.

Make your trial go further

  • Start with one small, clearly scoped task, then scale up.
  • Check your usage before running big or long jobs, since usage is measured by agent steps and tokens, not messages.
  • When a task works well, ask the bot to save it as a skill, then turn it into a routine that runs on a schedule.

After the trial

Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super and Ultra on The X Subscription. They share one weekly usage pool with Cursor and the Grok apps, and Super and Ultra include larger pools. If the pool runs out, you can keep going with prepaid credit (source).
